Looking forward to a New Year

2011....it sure has zoomed by!

Looking back, i have to say it was an interesting year to say the least. We had a wonderful summer with our camper, loved meeting new friends, saw a few new places, bought my husband a new truck (which is now broken down due to the accident), lost a few loved ones, and gained some new friends.

Looking forward to 2012...

There are lots of possibilities opening up for us, and a few humps to overcome still.

I am looking forward to the possibility of a new house of our own. Please pray for us as we make this big decision, as it means we will be moving many miles away from our family, however, that being said. While it is still only a possibility and there are a few things that have to fall into place before we make a final decision, we know that this would be good for us, because we will finally be able to be on our own, and while we would be far away, we would be close to some good friends who will be there for us. We would also be accomplishing a dream that has been mine, and has been Dale's, since before we were married. Our potential new home is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

As far as humps go, the big one is my husband's truck. (rolling my eyes) the rest are small and easily overcomeable (is that a word?).

I can't wait to see what changes this new year brings. I hope the new year brings everything you wish for and your dreams come true!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you and yours, from me, and mine!!!!

After Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is over...and the Christmas season has begun. My mother in law cooked 40 lbs of turkey to feed about 18 people and we had maybe 4 lbs left...

Friday was the Fantasy of Lights Parade in Howell, MI. It is a parade my husband, son, and I take in every year. It has gotten considerably smaller, when I was a child, there was at least 60 floats every year, this year I think there might have been 15. Chalk it up to the economy, I suppose. The floats were still beautiful. The bands played great. I think there were more people there than usual. (usual, being 20,000). It was nice to not have to wear 3 snowsuits, 4 sweatshirts, 2 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of long johns....well you get the picture, to go to the parade this year. It never seems to fail it is sleeting about parade time, not this year. It was 60 degrees. I wondered if I was in Florida.

My husband is building my son's Christmas present this year. We wanted to get him a barn, for his tractors and animals, but all we could find in the store were cheaply made plastic ones. So, we decided Dale will build it. The final dimensions my husband came up with are 24 inches wide, by 30 in long, by 24 inches high. He says after it is put together, he is going to stand on it. If it will take him standing on it, it should hold up to all the abuse my 5 year old can give it. I will post a picture when it is done.

the problem of too many email accounts

I have about 7 different email accounts...at least...the problem is three of them are associated with google...either gmail or my one yahoo account that I used to create this blog.

I have trentonsmom2006@yahoo and trentonsmom2006@gmail...plus 2 more gmail accounts, one I cannot remember, but that's not the point...

For about a week maybe longer, I have been trying to get into my blog...it kept telling me my password was incorrect....

so I sit there telling myself, now I know that's the password...retype it...password incorrect...ARGH!

I never checked the username...guess what...i had the wrong user name...silly me!

so now that I have the correct user name entered, I am back on my little blogger world...excuse the absence, i was having a brain fart!

another season in the books

Sadly, the camper has been winterized. Another happy season of camping has come to an end. Even Trenton says "No more camping, Mom." Think he is camped out?

We had a great season this year, albeit it had it's unpleasant parts too, but we won't mention those.

We had several weekends at Brighton Rec. Vacation in the Upper Pennisula, and some short excursions to other campgrounds like Sleepy Hollow State Park and Pontiac Lake State Park. We checked out a few other campgrounds we've never been to before, like Algonac State Park, Ionia Recreation Area, and Muskallonge Lake State Park, as well as revisited some others that we didn't camp at but enjoyed their facilities for the day. We met some great people, made a few friends, enjoyed camping with some old friends, and wished a few people would find another park to camp at. Ha ha.

I think my favorite memory of this season was going to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. That is truly a memory that will last a lifetime.

I have lots of plans for next year already. I am trying to talk my husband into going to the Upper Pennisula again. Baraga State Park maybe...if not then maybe Hoeft State Park in Roger's City, MI or Otsego Lake State Park by Waters, MI. of course there will be lots of weekends you will find our camper parked out at Brighton Recreation Area. Always feel free to drop by!

it's coming to an end

Well, blogger buddies, it's coming to end...it's finally getting to cold to go camping. We are going to be doing some remodeling to the camper over the winter...we are going to finish taking out the bathroom and put in a bed for Trenton and some better storage. We had a good summer with the camper. The two weeks at Brimley rocked (once we got there). It was great to meet Cathy (Yooper Yarns), maybe next time I can meet Joan (Retirement Chronicles) Brenda (Sault Boat Watcher) and some of my other online yooper friends.

We have a bit of plans for next summer...vacation in July for one, probably at Hoeft State Park in Roger's City, or maybe Harrisville State Park in Harrisville, we are going to take in the Buckley Steam Tractor Show in August...you will probably find us out at Brighton Rec's Bishop Lake campground the rest of the summer. While we are on the subject of Brighton Rec....I have to give them some Kudo's.....Ranger Charlie is in charge of keeping the bathrooms clean...he does one heck of a job! Those bathrooms are the cleanest of any State Park I have been too, and I have been to a lot of them. Even during the peak camping times, he is there 3 or 4 times a day cleaning. Rarely do you find the floors dirty with mud...the showers are sparkling, the mirrors are clean....The other rangers, Deb for one, do their best to see that rules are enforced, and everyone has a good time. Thank you Brighton Rec for being outstanding!!!

is this the end?

while camping this summer, my husband and I have discovered that our poor old camper may be giving up the ghost...the wall by the back door is rotting and we are not sure it is fixable, my husband and my father in law are going to give it their best shot over the winter so PLEASE cross your fingers for us and/or say a prayer...I don't want to have to go back to tent camping and if we do, it will be the end of every other weekend or at least once a month camping until we are able to acquire another one...if it is fixable however, we will be doing some remodeling to the camper, the bathroom is not used and is already missing the toilet, so we are going to take out the sink, cupboard, and shower and install a bed for our son plus some better shelving for storage...

on another note...due to the rotting wall, we may be going on our last camping trip of the season this weekend...originally, Dale and I were heading out for the weekend by ourselves for our 7th anniversary, but due to the massive allergy issues Trent is having, we have decided we are just not comfortable leaving him, AND he asked to go because he got jipped out of the last trip (he spent it being sick), so my mom and my sis in law are tagging along, and my best friend Sarah is bringing her twin boys to play with Trent....

missing a friend

Today was a day, started off scary, and ended with sadness...

today, a family lost a daughter, sister, cousin, and niece, I lost a friend. the local newspaper called it a horrible accident. I call it a tragedy. someone chose to run a stop sign and t-boned my friend's mom's Ford Focus, with a gravel train (i.e. semi hauling dump trailers loaded with sand). They say my friend never knew what hit her, never saw it coming. Her mom and friend must live with this the rest of their lives. Her mom and friend both lie in hospital beds tonight knowing she is gone, suffering with more than the pain of their wounds. A family is broken, huddling together for comfort in this great time of pain. May you rest in peace my friend. I hope you have found your beloved Gracie dog on the other side...be safe in the arms of Jesus...

Trucks

We have had an adventurous two weeks, since we have been home from vacation...those of you who read my previous post, know the trials and tribulations associated with getting home from vacation. What I have not had a chance to post is that the day after we got home, my husband had to work, on the way home he realized the motor was about to blow!

we have spent the last two weeks searching frantically for another 3/4 ton truck to pull our camper with before we go camping again, as the camping is already paid for.

We live in Byron, Mi....if you look at a map of Michigan, most of you know it is shaped like a mitten...we have driven all over from Howell, across to New Baltimore, up to Port Austin on the tip of the thumb, to Kawkawlin, which is by Bay City, back to our house, today alone we put over 200 miles on my truck.

We bought a vehicle, less than 20 miles from our house tonight!!!!!!

while it is good, I am feeling a bit frustrated with all the wasted time, gas, and energy...I feel badly for my poor 5 year old, who has been drug all over Hell's Half Acre with us. I have to give him many kudo's however. He has been so well-behaved, not creating a fuss, and riding along like a trooper. We allowed him an hour to splash in Lake Huron today, and Friday we visited Vantage Point in Port Huron and watched two Freighters pass each other in the river....

the Murphy's Law Vacation

yes, that is what it has been titled and will forever remain in our memories as....

I won't bore you with details, buuuuuuuuuuuuut, it was one of those trips where nothing went right during the travel....I hereby give you a small itinerary/what happened on our journey....

June 12th-yes the 12th, my husband's boss graciously gave him an extra day off and we decided to leave early and drive halfway and stop over night. Hubby said, leave by 1 pm....we left at 1:30 pm...got to the first rest area on US 127 (probably 75 miles from home, if that) had a flat on the truck towing the camper....okay, no big deal, hubby changed it. He now notices he cannot do more than 55 mile and hour, took him til 4:30 to get to the Clare Rest Area. I said, lets not go any farther than Grayling, I know you wanted to go to Indian River, but, lets just stop at Grayling and decide what to do from there...(he is also not able to maintain speed going up hills, which says to me we are having a transmission issue)....made it to the Hartwick Pines State Park exit, hubby gets off exit, turns right, blows a second tire on the truck....limps it to state park entrance and changes tire, (we only brought two spares, now they are both on the truck) Make camp...beautiful campground, if someone is ever looking for a nice place to camp midway up the state, I highly recommend Hartwick Pines, although in all fairness, i do have to say it is one of the more expensive parks...we decided that we would go to Gaylord in the a.m. and see about buying two new tires for the truck. around bedtime, I realize, my son did not bring his sleeping buddy a.k.a. Kitty! she is at home. enter bawling child, because he doesn't have his stuffed animal. (how i managed to forget Kitty is beyond me, but i sure feel like a horrible mother, really, what kind of mom forgets their child's favorite stuffed animal that he won't go to bed without!) so i load up in the car and start driving home to get her, then remember my friend is coming up so I call her (at 11pm) and ask her to please pick up Kitty and bring her up with her...go back to camp...

June 13th-go to Gaylord. Buy replacement stuffed animal for Trenton and buy two brand new tires for Dale's truck....(-$400+ dollars) as we are loading the new tires into my truck, the helpful walmart employee say to my husband "we didn't get them balanced right, you need to have someone else balance them, but they should be okay to get you the rest of the way up north," at camp, I look at the receipt and see they CHARGED us for balancing the tires! okay, whatever, deal with it later, only ten bucks, let it go. Dale puts on new tires while the rest of us pack up. 1 pm, on the road for Brimley, truck is all over the road, can't maintain speed..get off at Waters exit and take Old 27 to Mackinaw....over the Bridge!!!! finally make it to Brimley about 7 pm...set up camp....go into Sault Ste Marie, had an awesome dinner at the Country Kitchen....another highly recommended place to eat, not to expensive, portion sizes are large....drove out toward the east side of the Soo and saw a freighter headed up the Saint Mary's River, beat it to the Locks in time to get some good pictures!

June 14th-stayed in camp for the most part, went and got a few things we forgot as far as grocery items, and went and bought a cord of firewood for the 2 weeks.

June 15th-June 20th-we varied staying in camp with a trip across the International Bridge to Canada and a side trip to meet my blogger buddy Cathy and visit Tahquemenon Falls and Oswald's Bear Ranch. Canada was great, we went to the Lock there, and found a store the sold the tent poles my mom needed called Canadian Tire, (i was surprised that they sold sporting goods stuff) visited Gross Point. On Sunday the 19th, we took Trenton putt putt golfing as promised for his birthday. Monday, we went to the falls, met Cathy, who has an awesome campground by the way, perfect for someone who wants to see the Falls and take in other sights. Clementz Northcountry Campground is located much closer to M-28 and central U.P. then the state parks. Plus, it has a small family feel, and we didn't camp there, but just the welcome I received and driving through, that was the feeling I got. We then went and got some lunch, and drove to Oswald's Bear Ranch, where we fed the bears apples, and had our pictures taken with a cub. Then we drove north toward Grand Marias, and visited Muskallonge Lake State Park, if you are looking for something off the beaten path, that one's for you. coming back I decided to go cross country, as in off the main roads.....yeah well, good thing i ran into someone that knew the roads, and could tell us where we were going....never found Crisp Point Lighthouse, or the mouth of the Two Hearted River for fishing, but we had a good time....oh, and the 19th, we woke up to a flat tire on my truck...ha ha ha...but we were able to get it fixed at Mark's Tire in Brimley....

June 21st-23rd-RAIN, we went into town and went bowling one day....other than that we kinda hung out....except, we discovered that one of the U-joints on my husband's truck was about gone, so he had to fix that...which was probably part of the problem coming up north. We also took those tires that needed to be balanced to Mark's Tire in Brimley and found out WHY they weren't balanced and paid $20 to have them balanced.

June23rd- we moved camp and waited for Carrie and her grand kids to arrive, with Kitty (the all important stuffed animal Trenton just had to have, that he hasn't mentioned since we discovered she was forgotten) Kitty received a huge hug and lots of smile and a few tears...then we loaded up and took Carrie to town so that they could get some snacks and stuff....

June 24th-was engineer's day at the locks....lots of people, interesting things to see. There was a dragon on a sea-doo for the kids, named Seamour, and a safety dog that gave out some neat stuff for the kids...They had the plans for the new Lock that is being built sitting out where people could see it and look at it.

June 25th-we all (minus my mom and Trenton) drove to munising for the Pictured Rocks Cruise...(i have to insert here that gas was $3.54 a gallon in Munising) beautiful is the only word I have to describe what we saw that day. I love it, everyone loved it. It was well worth the long drive....

June 26th-we went to see the Locks one last time, and let the kiddies go swimming in Lake Superior...we all had a blast despite the 45 degree water...that night we enjoyed a big dinner of chicken, fried potatoes, and cauliflower.

June 27th- we packed up for what we hoped would be a nice, uneventful trip home. We left Brimley State Park at 10:30 am...without lights on the trailer, so we headed for the Soo so that we could get a new plug and fix them...on the way to the soo, husband runs over a dead porcupine. we left the Soo at 1:15 pm with lights, but no trailer brakes....they wouldn't work...no matter what my husband did. We stopped at Mackinaw City to buy fudge and take some pictures of the lighthouse and Bridge...and about 4:30 we were 15 miles north of Gaylord on the side of the expressway with a broke down truck....broken throttle cable....took two hours to find the part and replace it....made it down to the first Mount Pleasant exit, and blew a trailer tire. got that fixed and on the road we went.

June 28th-12:30 am....arrived home....total time from Brimley to Home...14 hours! 4 Flat Tires, 1 broken U Joint, and 1 broken throttle cable! and tired...

overall the vacation itself was great, we had a good time, good food, and good sights to see. I was only disappointed that I could not go meet my other blogger buddy Joan due to the having to purchase new tires for my husbands truck. I was happy to meet Cathy and see her campground. I hope I have a chance in the future to stay there...I was so glad my friend Carrie was able to come, she is the bestest friend I could have...I am already looking forward to next year, and we will NOT be vacationing in June, or traveling on a Sunday or Monday....and we will NOT be taking my husband's Ford anywhere over 50 miles from home! lol...

Graduation

Today, my favorite sister in law graduates high school. She is the youngest of 5 siblings, being born 6 years after her next in line sister. She has really struggled the last year and a half to get to where she is today. She isn't usually so persistent and dedicated, normally she will give up when the going gets tough. In this case, she muddled through, she is graduating, not with a diploma, but with a certificate of completion...but she is graduating, on time, and with her class! I am so proud of her, I have known her since she was about 4 or 5, and have been married to her brother for the last 7 years. I have seen her struggle and triumph over a school that chooses to put their students down rather than build them up. I am so proud of her, proud of the woman she has become. I am proud to call her my sister, not just my sister in law! You go Amy, You did it!!!!!!! You proved to yourself that you can!!!! now go take the world by it's horns and live life to the fullest!!!! I love you sissy!!!!

no power and 2 weeks to go

We have had an interesting 24 hours....started out with a tornado warning, followed by some high winds and loss of power...continued hanging out in the dark with our neighbor and her kids, then playing Skip Bo by Computer battery light.. and then with my darling 4 year old screaming his fool head off for an hour because it was too dark to go to sleep, (yes, we gave in and let him fall asleep in between us, and then put him back in his bed)...my sis in law and I got so hot, we gave in and went to lake....we called it prep for Lake Superior! Man, that water was C O L D !!!!!! We finally got our power back about 24 hours exactly today!...

On another note, We are leaving for our beloved Upper Pennisula and Lake Superior in exactly two weeks. While we are up there we are going to look for some property hopefully on a land contract that we might be able to purchase...Two Weeks Exactly, I can't wait!!!!

Great Weekend

We had an awesome weekend camping. It rained a bit during the night, Saturday, but otherwise was beautiful weather. It was good to get out and relax a bit, by the fire, and listening to the sounds of the drummer and flute player drifting on the breeze from the powwow that was going on at the organizational campground. It was peaceful to hear the flute music just floating on the breeze, we were camped probably at the furthest site from the powwow but yet we could still hear the music, I am sure they had loud speakers set up and that's why we were hearing it, but still, it was cool.

Today, Today, Today!!!!!!

As soon as I am done with Gram, Trenton and I will pack up the cooler, and head off for a grand weekend at the campground. There is a Native American Powwow going on too, so we will have lots of fun....Smore's, fishing, and a powwow...yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

I'm not excited or anything...Trenton keeps saying we are going camping today and I have to remind him that we are going on Thursday, and he says "but Mom, today's thursday"...no he isn't excited either...

Sunday, May 8, 2011

aw shucks

A week and a half before camping season kicks off for us at Brighton Recreation Area, and I just had to get sick!!!!! (we're going to be on site 62 if anyone wants to visit) sore throat, sore neck and shoulders, sinus running like wildfire...why now!!!!

S'mores and stuff

I keep getting teased.....there is a new hershey's commercial out there that advertises S'mores...has anyone seen the new marshmallows...they are S'more's marshmallows or so they advertise on the packaging. Walmart has them, they are little flat squares of Marshmallow...last year, i discovered Campfire Marshmallows, you know the ones that are like 5 times the size of a normal marshmallow...now they want me to use these puny little things....i think not....won't be finding them in my camper....

almost have the camper ready to go...need to switch the tires around (we bought two new ones) and get our hitch back from our friend (my husband loaned it out...grrr)

May 19th is the first weekend out, yes i know that's a thursday...we go out on Thursdays...then comes the whirlwind of my favorite sister in law's graduaion and open house, finals week, and then FINALLY... we get to leave for the U. P.

i am not sure if you can see the green in this pic or not...I had to take it with my phone...my camera has mysteriously come up missing!

Happy Easter Blogger Buddies

Okay, so this blog isn't really about Easter...just checking in...we have made a dent on getting the camper ready for the season...so far this is what we have done...

bought the caulk to fix the leak (can't actually fix it until we get some decent weather...packaging says it has to be in the 70's and of course not raining)

My sis in law bought her new tent...the old on didn't have enough ventilation on hot days, the only windows were in the door...

bought two new tires for the camper so we now have 4 new tires and 3 spares....they have to be put on though...

bought new vent cover thingies for something to do with draining the camper...not real sure, just told the husband to buy what we needed...

we bought a thingie that goes over the antenae for the camper so hopefully we can get some channels this year, instead of just movies on rainy days...

OHHH...about those tires....I have to give a plug to the great folks at Tractor Supply....last June when the first two new tires were purchased at the time of the accident, my father in law went to Tractor Supply in Charlotte and got them for $99.00 a piece....this spring when we were looking for tires, the price had gone up considerably to $150 a piece...however, I took the reciept from the previous tires to the Howell Store with me....The man there looked at the reciept, went and talked to his manager, and came back and told me they would sell me the tires for $109.00 a piece...so a big heartfelt Thank You! to Tractor Supply company for helping us out...I think we probably would have had to forego the new tires had we had to pay $150 for them!

Growing up

Seems like only a few days ago, I was in the hospital giving birth to my little monster boy....today I have to go sign him up for Kindergarten...he's definitely changed from the happy baby he was to a wild, ferocious, monsterish, happy little boy....we have left behind bottles, diapers, and toddler toys, today he prefers Tractors, Trains, and Trucks...not necessarily in that order....don't quite know what I am going to do with him...besides watch him go...

BTW...7 weeks and 5 days til vacation!!!

Sunday, April 10, 2011

10 weeks and counting

the beautiful weather today really has me thinking it's camping season, although Mr. Not as Excited as I am, will disagree. He has some legitimate concerns, like it's still getting down in the 30's at night, the water lines might freeze. However, Mrs. Optimistic and her friends are raring to go. I can only imagine with it being 86 (down in troll land) by my temp gauge in my truck, today, what Lake Superior is going to feel like in June....woo hooo!!!!!!!

other things going on.....the farm where my husband works is soon to have a new foal...personally, I would love to see a filly, but hey, they are all cute and fun to play with. Eyes (Cantouchis, the mare) is due on my birthday so here in the next few days or week there should be little foal born.

Sunday, April 3, 2011

11 weeks from tomorrow!

Yes, 11 weeks from tomorrow....or 77 days...until we leave for vacation. We wont mention the 10 weeks of school that comes in there, but at least it will help it go by fast. These next weeks will be a whirlwind, (i hope), to me...but I am so happy because with vacation comes s'mores, good friends, new and not so new, family, smore's, campfires, Lake Superior, the Soo Locks, and did I say Smore's? I am looking forward to meeting some of my blogger buddies, and hanging out with my mom, my best sis in law, my husband, son, and some good friends...

A sad day

Today was a very sad day for me. A very good friend of mine passed away today. A man who has been in my life since before I was born. Him and his wife are my parents neighbors. He was a man who didn't judge, but took you as you were for who you were. He taught me many things in life. He taught me to shoot a bow, and thanks to him I went to competition and was third in the state for a year. He bought me my bow that I used in competition. He took me up north with him and his mom.he helped instill in me a love for the outdoors and camping. He was more than a friend, he was my buddy, my mentor, my friend. I have no regrets, only sadness, I spoke with him on the phone a week ago, and he told me he was ready and he wanted to go. I told him, I respected that, but to know that I loved him, for all he had done. You will forever be in my heart, Rest in peace, my friend!

that itch that can't be scratched

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I got that itch again. It has stayed in the 40's or higher the last few nights.....time to go camping....we even slept with the window open last night! Seriously, Honey, It's time to unwinterize the camper! The campgrounds (that are open) are calling us!

Monday, February 7, 2011

Reservations are made!

Well, the reservations have been made, not exactly where I wanted them, but they are made. Hubby vetoed going across the UP because he is afraid the gas prices are going to be to high, which he probably has a valid point. however, that being said. We are camping at Brimley State Park for our whole vacation this year. I still hope to meet my friend from the Retirement Chronicles, (he said we can drive over that way for a day trip, just not take the camper that far), and my friend from Yooper Yarns, (we need to scope out her campground) and maybe even Sault Boat Watcher. On a happy note, we are finally able to go on the Pictured Rocks cruise, which I have been wanting to do since I was a child. wooo hooo. Some great friends will be camping with us this year, and we are going to go to the Soo Locks Engineer's Day while we are there!

Old Pictures

My husband and I were looking for a picture tonight and came across these pictures of the first time we took our son camping in U. P. when he was 15 months old....
